A Pair of French Bronze and Sienna Marble Sculptures of Voltaire and Rousseau

Second Quarter 19th Century

with lamp stands and shades.
Height of taller (figure and base)18 1/4 inches; height overall 29 inches.

Condition
Height of figures 13 inches. The sculptures are not mounted to lamp stands, but rather rest atop them. Wiring of lamp stands not tested. Both shades with some small tears to the interior lining, one with two tears to the exterior and both with few light surface marks to fabric. Each bronze and marble sculpture in overall good and mostly stable condition. Both figures with a mostly even patina, the Voltaire figure with some light surface marks and scratches to his back, the Rousseau figure with minor marks to shoulder. Both having minor roughness and small chips of loss along edges of marble bases and both bases with some sticker residue. The bronze mount to the marble base on the Rousseau figure is raised at one corner and not sitting flush in place. This mount on both examples in not fully adhered in place and can lift slightly from their setting. The staffs in one hand of each are not adhered in place and are removable.
